"A bad stomachache opened my eyes to a great hospital."
"I went to the doctor for a sore stomach. But, after examining me, he suspected it was something more serious and told me to go to the emergency room right away.
"Since I live in Mililani, I went to Kapi'olani Medical Center at Pali Momi's emergency room. In the ER, Dr. Wilcox and my nurse Dawn were great. Dawn explained everything and anticipated my needs. She really cared about me. After doing several tests, Dr. Wilcox told me I had acute appendicitis and had to have my appendix removed.
"Later that night, Dr. Grief performed my emergency surgery. Instead of a large incision, he made three small cuts about a half-inch wide, and used miniature instruments and a video camera to perform the surgery. "This special technique (laparoscopic surgery) greatly reduced my recovery time. I was able to enjoy a breakfast of sausage and eggs the next morning, and I went home that evening!
"My wife Gayle was relieved and amazed when Dr. Grief said I could go home. That night, we took our dogs, Aladdin and Lisa, for their nightly walk. Who would have thought I had undergone surgery the night before?"
