Providing state-of-the-art care, close to home for Leeward residents

Kapi'olani Medical Center at Pali Momi opened its doors in 1989 to serve the growing West Oahu community, providing care through its modern 116-bed facility. Over 100 physicians and specialists are located in the adjoining medical office building providing care for Leeward families.

Since then, Kapi'olani has made significant strides to bring the latest technology and innovative programs to Leeward Oahu, providing services in the community, where it's needed, and attracting more than 400 physicians to its medical staff.

Milestones include:

  • Development of Leeward Oahu's only cardiac catheterization unit for detection of heart disease
  • Design of a special center just for women to meet their unique health needs
  • Establishing the state's first Retina Center to prevent and treat blinding retinal conditions
  • Expansion of its emergency room, tripling in size to keep pace with the community's growth
  • State-of-the-art fully integrated minimally invasive surgical suite equipped with telemedicine capability

As a community-based hospital, Kapi'olani provides residents with the best of both worlds – the latest medical care with a unique personal touch. Our team of physicians, nurses, technologists and other providers all share in Kapi'olani's mission to improve and advocate for the health and well-being of our neighbors on Oahu.

Investing in Our Community

Kapi'olani completed several projects in 2007 to continue to expand and enhance the services available in our community:

  • MRI Virtual Cinemavision Headset makes patients feel like they¹re in a much larger space as if they¹re watching a large screen TV at home. No more loud knocking and no need for sedation.
  • 2nd Computer Tomography (CT) scanner acquired to ensure prompt diagnosis when needed
  • Computer Tomography (CT) scanner equipped to scan patients up to 650 pounds
  • 3rd Digital Mammography unit added. Our conversion to all digital mammography in 2005 was an important advancement for women in our community. Research confirmed that digital mammography is superior for women under 50, those with dense breasts, and perimenopausal and premenopausal women. With the addition of a third machine, patients can be seen quicker.

A Rich History

Shortly after opening in 1989, Pali Momi joined the Kapi'olani Health family. As a part of the system, Pali Momi shares in the rich legacy of Queen Kapi'olani who founded the Maternity Home in 1890 to care for Hawaii's moms and babies. And just as the Queen relied on the support of the community to realize her vision, so too has Pali Momi.

The beautifully designed Leeward facility represents the efforts of many and an extensive planning process that spanned several years. The thoughtful, patient-centered approach is evident in the unique hospital design, which includes open-air walkways, a relaxing courtyard and finely appointed private patient rooms.

With the recent merger in 2001 of Kapi'olani Health, Straub and Wilcox Health on Kauai, Pali Momi enters another exciting phase in its development. Together the hospitals and clinics formed the Hawaii Pacific Health network, increasing the health care choices for all of Hawaii's families.
