Pediatric Surgery Services

Kapi‘olani Pediatric Surgery provides specialized minimally invasive surgical care for a wide variety of developmental and acquired problems including:

  • Surgical repair of congenital birth anomalies including intestinal, liver/biliary, diaphragmatic and lung abnormalities
  • Repair or treatment of chest wall deformities(pectus abnormalities)
  • Inguinal hernias, abdominal hernias
  • Hydrocele
  • Tumors of the kidney and adrenal gland
  • Liver tumors
  • Undescended testicle
  • Imperforate anus and cloacal abnormalities
  • Hirschsprung’s disease
  • Appendicitis
  • Disorders of the gallbladder
  • Surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease

  • Pediatric gynecology (ovarian masses, intersexdisorders)

Our Team

Sidney Johnson, M.D., FACS Sidney Johnson, M.D., FACS
Dr. Johnson completed his fellowship training in pediatric surgery at Harvard’s Children’s Hospital Boston. While in Boston, Dr. Johnson also completed fellowship training in surgical critical care and bioethics. His general surgery training was completed at the University of Utah. Dr. Johnson’s surgical interests include pediatric and neonatal general, thoracic and advanced minimally invasive surgery as well as pediatric oncology. He is clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Hawai‘i, John A. Burns School of Medicine. He has been practicing pediatric surgery in Hawai‘i since 2005.

   
Devin Puapong, M.D. Devin Puapong, M.D.
Dr. Puapong has been on the surgical staff at Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women and Children and clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Hawai‘i, John A. Burns School of Medicine since 2009.  He is originally from Oahu and a graduate of Iolani school. Dr. Puapong completed medical school at UCLA and did his general surgery training at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center.  He went on to do a pediatric surgical fellowship at the University of Oklahoma prior to moving back to Hawai‘i. Dr. Puapong's interests include pediatric and neonatal minimally invasive surgery, congenital anomalies, surgical oncology and pediatric trauma. In addition, he is actively involved in the Hawai‘i Trauma Advisory Council and numerous clinical research projects.

   
Russell Woo, M.D. Russell Woo, M.D.
Dr. Russell Woo has been on the surgical staff at Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children since 2009.  He is also clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Hawai‘i, John A. Burns School of Medicine.  His surgical interests include general and thoracic pediatric surgery, neonatal surgery, and surgical oncology.  In addition, he has an active research program investigating the developmental outcomes of children requiring extracorporeal life support therapy.  Dr. Woo is a graduate of the Yale University School of Medicine.  He completed his residency training in general surgery at Stanford University and his fellowship training in pediatric surgery at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
